Air Import Manager
My client is a dynamic and growing freight forwarding company with a strong global network. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Air Import Manager to lead and develop our Air Import department at our Queens, NY office. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring efficient, compliant, and profitable air import operations, delivering exceptional service to our clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Leadership: Oversee and manage all aspects of the air import process, from quotation through to final delivery.
- Ensure all import activities are conducted in compliance with relevant regulations (HMRC, airline security, etc.).
- Develop and implement efficient workflows and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Air Import department.
- Monitor and optimize operational performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
- Manage relationships with airlines, handling agents, customs brokers, and other service providers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any operational issues or delays effectively and efficiently.
- Team Management & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the Air Import team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Set clear performance expectations, monitor individual and team performance, and provide regular feedback.
- Identify training needs and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
- Manage team workload, allocate resources effectively, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Conduct regular team meetings and communicate key company updates and operational changes.
- Financial Management: Monitor and control departmental costs, ensuring profitability and adherence to budget.
- Negotiate rates and service agreements with airlines and other vendors.
- Ensure accurate and timely invoicing and cost recovery.
- Contribute to the development of pricing strategies for air import services.
- Client Relationship Management :Act as a point of escalation for complex air import inquiries and issues.
- Maintain strong relationships with key clients, understanding their specific needs and ensuring service excellence.
- Collaborate with the sales team to develop and implement solutions for new and existing clients.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations as required.
- Compliance & Documentation :Ensure all import documentation (AWBs, invoices, packing lists, customs entries, etc.) is accurate and processed in a timely manner.
- Stay up-to-date on changes in customs regulations, airline procedures, and security requirements.
- Implement and maintain robust record-keeping systems.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance.
