Position Summary:
Hinds Career Center is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Career and Technical Education (CTE) Criminal Justice Instructor to join our dynamic team as a second instructor in the Criminal Justice pathway. This role is an exciting opportunity to co-lead and expand a growing program that prepares high school students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, legal studies, forensic science and related fields.
Key Responsibilities:
- In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the futures of students interested in pursuing careers in the criminal justice pathway.
- You will develop and deliver an engaging curriculum, guide students through practical experiences, and prepare them for success in post-secondary education and the workforce.
- Collaborate with the current instructor to ensure alignment of curriculum, assessments, and program outcomes.
- Develop and deliver innovative lesson plans that cover a variety of topics
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods, including lectures, discussions, simulations, laboratory experiments, and guest speakers from the criminal justice field
- Integrate project-based learning opportunities that allow students to apply their knowledge and develop essential skills
- Facilitate student participation in industry-recognized certifications, job shadowing programs and internships
- Provide individualized support, mentoring and college and career counseling to students
- Collaborate with other teachers, counselors and professionals to create a comprehensive and supportive learning environment
- Supervise and mentor students in career and technical student organizations (CTSOs) and work-based learning experiences.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, certifications, and program achievements.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with local law enforcement, legal, and community organizations.
- Participate in professional development and maintain required industry credentials.
Qualifications:
- Valid state teaching license in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement - - or candidate will obtain Workplace Specialist License during first year of teaching
**Workplace Specialist eligibility requirements include 5000 hours
(about 2.5 years) of verified occupational experience in the five (5) years
- Strong understanding of the criminal justice and law enforcement industry and career opportunities
- Excellent communication, collaboration, interpersonal and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
- Passion for career and technical education and student success.
