Position Summary:
The Student Support Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting student growth, achievement, and workforce readiness at Hinds Career Center. This individual will work closely with students, instructors, families, and community partners to ensure student success in all areas—academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and career-focused. This position also serves as the Work-Based Learning (WBL) Coordinator and Career Coach, making it a key contributor to Hinds' mission of preparing students for their next steps.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Support & Engagement
- Provide proactive outreach and individualized support to students experiencing academic, attendance, or behavioral challenges.
- Develop and monitor student support plans and interventions in collaboration with instructors and sending schools.
- Maintain and implement student attendance policy and procedures; coordinate efforts with the Director.
- Serve as a liaison between Hinds, sending schools, families and community.
- Facilitate student interventions, restorative practices, and goal-setting meetings.
- Assist with student orientations, college/career readiness, and retention efforts.
Instructional Support
- Provide instructional coaching and feedback to instructors to support high-quality, engaging instruction.
- Plan and implement professional development in collaboration with instructors and leadership.
- Work with Director on strategic planning and continuous program improvement.
Career Coaching & Workforce Readiness
- Serve as Career Coach for Hinds students and help them navigate and set career goals.
- Provide delivery of a variety of workshops and 1:1 support opportunities focused on workforce readiness.
- Collaborate with middle and high school counselors to provide career development guidance and exploration activities.
Work-Based Learning Coordination
- Serve as Work-Based Learning Coordinator for Hinds Career Center, Elwood Community School Corporation and CTE District #25.
- Conduct site visits and maintain regular communication with student interns and their supervisors.
- Maintain student training agreements and create individualized training plans for student interns.
- Liaise with community organizations and businesses to develop and sustain internship partnerships.
Community & Communication
- Communicate regularly and effectively with students, parents and community.
- Build and sustain relationships with local employers, organizations, and stakeholders to support student opportunities and program development.
Other
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, leadership or a related field.
- Experience working in a secondary or post-secondary educational setting.
- Knowledge of career and technical education, work-based learning and/or instructional coaching.
- Familiarity with behavior interventions and workforce readiness strategies.
- Strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
- Passion for career and technical education and student success.
