MSRP / Loan Officer Job Description:
Purpose:
Provide information on credit union products and services to members in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures and State and Federal rules and regulations. Perform a wide range of transactional duties to serve members; opening accounts, processing share transactions, loan payments, maintaining member files, etc. Responsible for interviewing and evaluating applicants for loans and processing various loan applications. Gather background information and analyze loan applicants’ credit history.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mail or e-mail loan applications and/or information to members and prospective members.
- Interview loan applicants and provide information on Credit Union loan products that best meet the member’s needs. Answer questions for members throughout the loan application process. Explain the loan process to include loan options, insurance required on Credit Union loan products, loan products, loan policies, interest rates, payoffs, etc.
- Gather background information on loan applicants by interviewing loan applicants and ensuring that the application is filled out completely.
- Assist members with the loan application process to ensure completeness of information gathered.
- Determine collateral needs and payment plans for loan applicants. Recommend and outline terms of loan and inform prospective borrowers of loan commitments.
- Verify income for all applicants; obtain copy(s) of most recent pay-stub. Obtain most recent profit and loss statement and income tax return for self employed members.
- Obtain credit reports for all applicants, including co-signers; verify debts included on the loan application against the credit report. Estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts and add them to the outstanding debts listed on the application in order to calculate an accurate debt-to-income ratio.
- Calculate and document value of collateral for secured loans. Ensure that the collateral offered for the loan is within Credit Union guidelines.
- Submit the completed loan application to the Manager for further approval if the loan is within established staff loan approval guidelines. If the loan does not meet guidelines for staff approval, the loan will be submitted to the Credit Committee. All loans will be expedited and presented to Manager or Credit Committee for approval. Verify the accuracy of loan amounts and repayment terms on approved loan applications. Notify applicant of loan decision. Correspond with members, applicants and creditors to resolve questions regarding application information.
- Process loan and complete supporting documents. Obtain verification of insurance at time of loan signing and disburse funds when loan completed.
- Maintain a filing system and procedures to monitor that the required documentation is received and maintained appropriately and according to the Credit Union’s policies and procedures.
- Implement new loan products and services in accordance with management direction.
- Cross-sell lending and other Credit Union products.
- Ensure title documents are completed accurately and submitted to the Credit Union’s Third Party Title Service for processing in a timely manner. Obtain copy of completed Electronic Title and verify that the Credit Union’s lien has been recorded properly.
- Maintain Insurance Log for all members whose loans are secured by real collateral. Maintain contact with member and Insurance Company to verify insurance is in force at all times. Follow up with member and insurance company regarding any lapse in coverage.
- Prepare Adverse Action notices for denied loan applicants. Explain reasons for loan denial in a professional, courteous manner. Work with member to provide recommendations or alternative options for other possible ways to secure a loan in the future.
- Stock and maintain an adequate supply of all forms, applications, brochures, and other informational material for the loan applicants.

- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must be able to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Must be able to work unsupervised and monitor own work to ensure quality.
- Must have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Credit Union software.
- Ability to maintain consistent attendance.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review and test office system and procedure guidelines as required.
- Work within and promote credit union values.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform the duties of this job, to include sitting, standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, use of hands to fingers, talking, hearing, stooping, and kneeling.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Vision ability required by this job include close vision.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Minimum of 3 years data entry or personal computer skills or experience.
- Minimum of 1 years accounting or finance job experience.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
