Summary:
The Night Supervisor is responsible for the security, supervision and welfare of students overnight within the residence and is on call in case of any emergency.
Job Purpose:
This role involves ensuring the welfare and safety of students you are responsible for and whom you come into contact with. Maximize student and group leader satisfaction by ensuring their experience meets or exceeds their expectations. Ensure the center operates to the highest standards of relevant health & safety, safeguarding, HR practices.
Work Schedule:
The schedule entails working late evening to early morning shifts with at least one full day off each week. This is a non-residential position. You will also be compensated for any overtime hours worked at the applicable overtime rate(s) as required by law.
- 24 hours per week (Inclusive of night supervision, plus duties as required to meet operational needs)
- 6 nights per week from 11:00 pm – 3:00 am (Inclusive of Fri, Sat, Sun & Mon nights)
Key Responsibilities:
- To ensure student welfare is maintained by carrying out regular inspections of the residential areas during the duty period.
- To establish a routine of checks to ensure students are in their rooms and lights are out.
- To act as a representative of the management team, calling on the duty manager when appropriate.
- To retain responsibility for holding the master keys to residential buildings during duty shifts (dependent on university requirements and permissions).
- To report any major security issues to campus security personnel.
- To assist with arrivals and departures when these fall during the duty period.
- To complete a duty log detailing times of “rounds” and recording any incidents that take place during the night.
- To ensure communal areas are kept tidy and to report any considerable untidiness or damages in these areas.
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of students in line with legal, university and company requirements.
- To be on the Center’s emergency phone list and to be an additional on-call representative in case of emergency.
Qualifications & Training:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required). College coursework is preferred.
- Skills: Excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to handle and resolve conflicts; good time management and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of health and safety regulations is strongly preferred.
- Flexibility: Available to work late night / overnight shifts and have a flexible schedule.
- Experience: Previous experience in night patrol or night supervisory role (Desirable).
- Certifications: Valid First Aid Certificate and/or valid CPR Certificate (Desirable).
- Demonstrates the ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.
- Demonstrates emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviors.
- Demonstrates a positive attitude to the use of authority and maintaining discipline.
- 6 days out of 7 (1 day off per week)
- Hourly rate: $25.00
Student Accommodation:
Students are housed in university dormitories. Students are accommodated and genders are split by floor or wing depending on university requirements. Under no circumstances should any member of staff enter a room without another member of staff present.
