As a member of the Student Affairs team, the Student Accessibility Manager is responsible for supporting students with disabilities by providing individualized accommodations and services to ensure equal access to educational opportunities. The individual will access student needs, develop support plans and collaborate with faculty and staff to create an inclusive academic environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Evaluate requests for accommodation from students with disabilities. Review each student’s application for academic accommodations and documentation. Render a professional opinion about each student’s request for accommodation as a member of a committee for determination of eligibility. Implement accommodations in collaboration with students, faculty and other stakeholders and ensure compliance with ADA laws and university policy. Follow up on incomplete applications, prospects and at-risk students.
- Develop and deliver workshops and training sessions for faculty, staff and students on disability awareness, accommodation processes and best practices
- Serve as a liaison between students and academic departments to promote understanding and compliance with accessibility policies. Work closely with faculty and staff to facilitate the delivery of accommodation and support services.
- Raise awareness of available resources and services among students through outreach programs and informational materials. Provide training and guidance on assistive technology tools to students with disabilities.
- Primary contact and facilitator for the Workforce Recruitment Program.
- Research and identify trends and identify opportunities to improve SAS services to students and other duties as assigned.
- Represent the Assistant Director of Student Accessibility Services in their absence.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work or any related field
- 1-3 years of relevant experience
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Interpersonal: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, faculty and staff
- Organizational: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and maintain detailed records
- Knowledgeable: Familiarity with disability laws (e.g., ADA, Section 504) and best practices in accessibility and accommodations. Familiarity with FERPA and management of confidential information.
- Problem Solving: Ability to access complex situations and develop effective solutions tailored to individual needs
- Cultural Competence: Understanding of diverse backgrounds and the ability to create and inclusive environment
