POSITION OVERVIEW
Calling all remote-control model aircraft enthusiast with a desire to get involved in leading-edge innovations against Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), also referred to as drones. Would you like to work in a fast-paced environment supported by advanced technologies that undermine the intensions of nefarious drone pilots? Become a Counter-UAS (C-UAS) subject matter expert and part of the solution, learn to fly small drones in a tactical setting and gain an appreciation of skills required to mitigate an untraceable airborne threat. EMD LLC Corporation is currently seeking a UAS Integrator to design and build sample UAS test articles to include proficiency in operating rotary and fixed wing UAS. The UAS integrator will also serve as an instructor pilot for fixed wing operations. The UAS Integrator shall assist in the integration all C-UAS systems to provide situational awareness to the end user using a common C2 interface.
The EMD LLC C-UAS team is a U.S. government sponsored program that provides program management, solutions development, testing, evaluation, maintenance, training, and operations to provide protection to personnel and property at U.S. missions abroad. The market for C-UAS technologies is ever expanding as the proliferation of drones continue to saturate the airspace with an omnipresence threat. The contract requires medical screening/examinations/testing for this position. The government is requiring significant medical screening/examinations/testing for this position. Candidate will receive a contingent offer based on successful completion of government medical requirements. The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of State Class 1 Medical Clearance.
On September 24, 2021, the U.S. Government’s Safer Federal Workforce Task Force issued “2021 Guidance for Federal Contractors and Subcontractors” mandating that Covered federal contractors, including EMD LLC, and their employees shall be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
- Research, design, assemble, and build threat replica UAS test articles.
- Operate and fly test articles to emulate realistic threat profiles.
- Plan UAS operations/flights via mission planner software.
- Provide onsite training to end users on all integrated systems.
- Provide remote troubleshooting and assistance to end users.
- Instruct Part 107 rotary wing certified personnel on fixed wing operations.
- Understand and follow project designs/schematics to include 3D printing, electronics, aerodynamics.
- Complete required project documentation and ensure projects are accurate.
- Assist with installing, configuring, testing, maintaining, repairing, and/or operating system of systems solutions to include passive and active electronic warfare systems, radars, and EO/IR cameras.
- Must possess good written and verbal communication skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in UAS, Aeronautical, or Geographic Information Systems (may be substituted with 5 or more years of relative integration/engineering experience)
Experience
- Entry level Engineering position.
- RC Modeling / building experience.
- Building DIY prototype models.
- Familiarity with UAS control modalities and systems.
- Expert fixed wing & rotary wing UAS pilot.
- Candidate must hold a valid U.S. passport or can obtain a U.S. passport.
- Candidate must be able to obtain a class 1 DOS medical clearance.
- SECRET level Security Clearance required.
- Expert in various autopiles specifically the Pixhawk or ArduPilotMega family of flight controllers
- Candidate must have a working knowledge in range extenders, first person viewer technology, flight controllers, electronic speed control, telemetry radios, and ground control stations.
Training / Certification Requirements
- FAA Part 107 required.
- FCC Hand Technician level license.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills Requirements
- Ability to work alone or within a group.
- Basic mechanical understanding; experience working with tools.
- Basic understanding of RF theory; experience with communications, GPS, and electronic countermeasures systems is highly desired.
- UAS incident reporting.
- FAA/flight coordination.
- FAA Low Altitude Authorization and Notification (LAANC) system.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/ EQUAL OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift objects 50-80 pounds such as boxes and other equipment.
- Perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, crawl spaces, above ceilings, etc.
- Manual dexterity required for frequent reaching, climbing, and lifting of moderate objects, operation of power and manual tools/equipment, and operating office equipment.
- Must meet most stringent country medical clearance requirements. Position requires adherence to approved vaccination protocols as determined by location.
Work Conditions:
- Typical assignments are performed in climate controlled and external environments with a variety of weather conditions. Ability to work under extreme hot or cold weather conditions with exposure to dust or dirt is routine and may require the use of protective personal equipment (PPE).
Travel:
- Candidates should be willing to travel / TDY away from their home location for up to 30% of a typical work year. The standard for this position is ten hours per day. Non workdays are designated by the location and work week. An UAS Integrator at a post designated at a 60-hour work week location will have one assigned day off per week. Overseas locations will be in high-risk environments and domestic travel may be required for training and program coordination.
