Position Summary
The Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methodology (QQRM) program invites applications for a Visiting Lecturer of Qualitative Methodology. This will be a full-time, non-tenure track, 10-month appointment (beginning 08/1/2025) in the Department of Applied Psychology in Education and Research Methodology within the School of Education at Indiana University Bloomington (IUB). This appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year.
Position Description:
We are seeking a candidate who can contribute to our methodology program, with expertise in qualitative method/ologies. At IUB, there is a longstanding and highly active qualitative research community that includes both graduate students (PhD, Master’s, and certificate) and faculty from a range of disciplines. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in qualitative method/ology and a commitment to high-quality qualitative pedagogy.
Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Teach 3 qualitative method/ology courses per semester (3 fall/3 spring courseload);
  • Supervise undergraduate qualitative methods courses being taught by graduate students;
  • Support the coordination of the online Certificate in Qualitative Research and Inquiry Methodology and the QQRM M.S.Ed. program; and
  • Mentor and advise certificate and QQRM Master’s students studying qualitative method/ologies.

Program Information:
The QQRM PhD and M.S.Ed. program (formerly called Inquiry Methodology) at Indiana University, Bloomington began in 2009. Our program has long been dedicated to the advancement of social and behavioral research by critically evaluating, improving, and developing methodological theory and methods so that phenomena of interest can be more soundly investigated and better understood. As a scholarly community, we are committed to preparing and supporting the next generation of qualitative and quantitative methodologists to take on a leading role in developments affecting social and behavioral research. Beyond our PhD and Master’s programs, we offer an online Certificate in Qualitative Research and Inquiry Methodology that is designed to support individuals working and researching in applied contexts. Basic Qualifications
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in qualitative research method/ologies or a closely related field with specialization in qualitative method/ologies;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and expertise in qualitative research method/ologies and qualitative research design;
  • Evidence of effectiveness in teaching;
  • Ability to work with and mentor students from a range of disciplines and backgrounds; and
  • Ability to foster an equitable and inclusive environment for learning (See School of Education Diversity Plan for more information).

Additional Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching qualitative method/ology courses at the graduate level;
  • Experience with alternate course delivery (e.g., online, hybrid); and
  • Interest in scholarship related to qualitative pedagogy.
