Key Responsibilities of the Veterinary Assistant
- Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures. Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately. Perform laboratory procedures such as blood draws, urinalysis, and diagnostic imaging.
- Administer medications and treatments under the direction of veterinarians.
- Monitor and record patient vital signs and behaviors. Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, exam rooms, and kennels.
- Educate clients on post-care instructions, medications, and preventive health care.
- Assist with client communication and provide exceptional customer service.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise to be Successful
High School Diploma or GED required
Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant is preferred.
Knowledge of basic veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Compassion for animals and dedication to their well-being.
Flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant is preferred.
