The Director of Quality leads and manages the quality assurance and control functions of the Quality department for the company. This pivotal role will ensure that products meet stringent aerospace standards while driving efficiencies and streamlining processes to support operational needs and business objectives.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Oversee the company’s quality management system (QMS) to ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and mentor the quality team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align quality goals with overall business objectives, including delivery timelines and cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate and improve quality processes to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize production delays.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, and supply chain teams to create seamless workflows that meet quality and production objectives.
  • Implement advanced quality tools such as SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing principles to streamline processes and increase productivity.
  • Ensure all products and processes meet customer, industry, and regulatory requirements, including FAA, ITAR, and other aerospace-specific standards.
  • Oversee internal and external audits, addressing findings and maintaining certifications.
  • Oversee the resolution of non-conformances through corrective and preventive action programs.
  • Oversee quality control processes, including first article inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final product verification.
  • Oversee documentation and record-keeping, ensuring traceability and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvements to reduce defects, improve first-pass yield, and enhance product reliability.
  • Lead initiatives to identify and eliminate inefficiencies in quality-related processes.
  • Promote a culture of proactive problem-solving through root cause analysis and preventive actions.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality and efficiency, using data to drive decision-making and improvements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related matters with customers, ensuring satisfaction and swift resolution of issues.
  • Oversee supplier quality management, conducting audits, and implementing improvement plans as necessary.

Supervision:

Quality personnel supporting day to day operations.

Education and Experience Requirements and Skills:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in quality management, with at least 5 years in the aerospace manufacturing sector.
  • Proven success in creating efficiencies and optimizing processes within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards, with experience leading audits and maintaining certifications.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.

Skills and Abilities (technical, organizations, knowledge, etc.):

  • Must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, all essential functions of the job.
  • Expertise in quality tools and methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to align quality initiatives with broader business objectives.
  • Demonstrated success in streamlining operations and reducing inefficiencies.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a hands-on approach to management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel may be required to support business needs.

Work Environment:

  • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. For most part ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in typical office environment. Exposure to moderate hazards, heat/cold and noise.
