Job Purpose Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and professional Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals for up to 300 children in accordance with the Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Guidelines. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing healthy, appealing meals and ensuring a safe, clean, and organized kitchen environment. This role is crucial in supporting the well-being and development of young children through balanced nutrition.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Prepare and serve nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snacks for 300 children, adhering to the Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services guidelines.
  • Ensure all food preparation, handling, and storage meet safety and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, pantry, and all food preparation areas.
  • Follow safety protocols in all food service operations, ensuring the highest standards of food safety.
  • Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, cooking equipment, and utensils.
  • Deliver meals and snacks to classrooms and ensure family-style meal service.
  • Clean and sanitize classroom dishes and return them to the appropriate classroom after each meal.
  • Support the efficient operation of the kitchen, pantry, and related areas, ensuring all supplies are stocked and accessible.
  • Participate in the maintenance of food inventory, order supplies, and pick up food from vendors as needed.
  • Ensure the kitchen, freezer, and pantry areas are properly cleaned and organized on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to implement cost-effective measures while maintaining meal quality.
  • Prepare and plan weekly menus that meet federal and state nutritional standards.
  • Maintain required forms and records in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Report equipment maintenance needs to the Director.
  • Demonstrate excellent time management skills, ensuring meals are served promptly and in an attractive manner.
  • Attend relevant workshops, training, or courses to stay current on best practices in food service and child nutrition.

Performance Expectations:

  • Prepare and serve meals in large quantities that meet established guidelines.
  • Operate kitchen equipment with expertise, ensuring proper use and maintenance.
  • Work effectively under pressure, meeting meal service deadlines and maintaining quality.
  • Demonstrate efficiency, punctuality, and regular attendance in all duties.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment, ensuring smooth operations in the food service department.

Personal Qualities:

  • Possess a genuine interest in supporting children’s health and well-being through quality nutrition.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to good health and hygiene practices.
  • Hold a valid Food Handler’s License and comply with all food safety regulations.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative and positive attitude when working with colleagues, supervisors, and children.
  • Accept constructive feedback and actively work towards self-improvement.
  • Be physically capable of performing the duties required, including standing for long periods, lifting, bending, and other necessary physical tasks.

Additional Qualifications:

  • A valid driver’s license is required for transportation of food supplies.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to attend professional development opportunities, workshops, or training as recommended.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
