Farm Market Assistant Supervisor (2025 Season)

Job Description: Emmi and Sons Inc. is a retail and wholesale fruit and vegetable family farm in Central New York. Emmi and Sons Inc. is looking for a Farm Market Assistant Manager for our 2025 season. We are searching for 2, Part Time employees to fill this role. These employees will oversee the daily operations of our Farm Market in Baldwinsville, NY. Applicants must have excellent management and interpersonal skills, enjoy meeting new people, and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of a family owned and operated farm market.

Duties & Responsibilities: To be split between the 2 new employees.

• Willing to work in a fast-paced environment of the Farm Market: includes fruits, vegetables, nursery stock and other products.
• Responsible for daily operations of the Farm Market including:
• Weekly ordering and management of inventory.
• Scheduling and management of Farm Market staff as they assist customers in the selection of plants, fruit, produce, operating checkout system, and stocking.
• Oversee registers/check-out/inventory system (Square for Retail)
• Ensure compliance with market rules/regulations/food safety requirements.
• Help coordinating special events.
• Help to create a clean, attractive and welcoming environment in and outside the farm store, including educational signage, porch and front displays, wagons and seating area.
• Set-up and store away produce and products daily.
• Learn about our Pick-Your-Own operation and assist with creating relevant signage.
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy meeting new people.
• Willing to complete Food Safety certification.
• Willing to assist in marketing of the Farm Market using social media and emails.
• Participate in end-of-season market evaluation and goal setting for next season.
• Be able to lift up to 40 lbs. of peaches, apples, tomatoes, or other produce.
• Be able to spend approximately 8 hours per day standing, and must be able to stoop, bend, kneel, squat, and twist around.
• Be able to work outdoors in weather conditions including heat, cold and dust.
• Work cooperatively with other members of the Retail and Wholesale departments.
• Willing to perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• Prefer a 4-year college degree (preferred) or high school diploma with 4 years of retail or management experience (preferred).
• Have excellent math and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, and Google.
• Have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, integrity, and willingness to work with Emmi and Sons Inc. ‘Family’.
• Willing to work in a team atmosphere.
• Be able to handle several tasks at the same time, prioritize workload, and have flexibility as work demands change.
• Willing to work with Spanish-speaking workers.
• Have good communication skills and be able to effectively work with the entire staff at Emmi and Sons Inc.
• Ability to commit to the full season (May to October), preference will be given to candidates with open availability.

Start Date: Approximately May 10th, 2025.

End Date: Approximately October 15th, 2025.

Supervisor: This position will answer directly to the Retail and/or Wholesale Manager(s).

Hours: This is a seasonal position from May 10th to October 15th. Summer hours are typically from 9:00AM to 6:00PM Tuesday through Saturday, and 9:00AM to 4:00PM on Sundays. We are closed on Mondays. During summer harvest, hours for this position may fluctuate. All day availability is preferred on Saturdays and Sundays. Vacation is highly discouraged during peak season. All vacation requests must be approved in advance by Supervisor. This is a seasonal, part-time position. Year round employment may be possible at one of our sister companies, should this be desired by the applicant.

Pay and Benefits: Pay starts at $17.50 per hour. We offer an hourly wage and employee pricing on all items.

Drug Testing and Background Checks: Emmi and Sons Inc. is committed to providing a drug-free and safe workplace. Therefore, all employees are subject to random drug testing, reasonable suspicion testing, and post-accident testing. In addition, all new employees will be subject to a background check.
