Job Summary
The Superintendent is a key role within Wagner Construction, responsible for providing direct in-field supervision to sub trades, earthwork and pipe crews across various construction, maintenance and repair operations.
Main Responsibilities
- Assessing job priorities and assigning employees to appropriate tasks
- Recording daily job diaries using HCSS Heavy Job
- Meeting production requirements and goals
- Maintaining as-built plans
- Submitting timecards and trucking reports weekly
- Ensuring employees have necessary tools and equipment for safe and productive work
- Overseeing work to ensure smooth operation and adherence to project plans
- Providing clear directions to avoid repetitive mistakes or rework
- Maintaining company rules and conducting daily safety meetings
Leadership Role
Acts as leader and supervisor for small crews engaged in road/highway construction, maintenance and repair projects and other civil infrastructure projects. In the absence of the Superintendent, supervises operations, directs sub-contractors and maintains material inventory.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Frequently performs physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs, such as standing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching and handling materials, equipment and tools
- Lifts, pushes, pulls and carries heavy objects, machinery and tools
- Works around vehicles and machinery with moving parts
- Exposed to exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuel
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions
- May be exposed to loud noise
Qualifications
- 5 years of pipe experience within public works or heavy civil construction industry
- Experience reading blueprints
- Field supervision experience required
- Possession of a valid driver's license
Required Skills
- Considerable knowledge of materials, methods and techniques relative to utility, road/highway construction and maintenance
- Knowledge of field safety
- Ability to identify additional work not identified in plans and specs
- Ability to read engineering plans and blueprints
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally with crew
Working Conditions
Hours will vary by job, location and season. Working night shifts may be required. The role requires flexibility to work in diverse locations with changing work schedules.
