KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This is a central job, reporting to Research Grants & Contracts (RGC).
  • Responsible for post award processing of grants and contracts.
  • Provide account management, reconciliation, and resolution for principal investigators and research support personnel within a department or school.
  • Advise and interpret research funding awards, approve and/or monitor accounting and procurement expenditures consistent with regulatory and University practices, and provide direct support with accounts payable/receivable processes.
  • Routinely provides policy and procedure interpretation to academic departments and assists in the preparation of reports to federal and sponsoring agencies.
  • Other duties may include reviewing contracts, maintaining grant and contract files, reviewing invoices, monitoring accounts receivable and deliverable reports, developing queries and reports on the financial system, working with the division business managers to resolve contractual issues, communicating with sponsors, ensuring compliance with contract regulations and reporting requirements, and closing out contracts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  •  The Senior Sponsored Research Financial Analyst will serve in a cross-functional role, working with all units within the Research Grants and Contracts (RGC) department.
  • RGC Units include: Post-Award Setup, Operations, Grants – Accounts Receivable, Award Closeout, and Data Assurance/Compliance.
  • Assist with post-award activities including regular review, reconciliation, preparation of financial reports/invoices, and at the end of the award, ensuring all financial requirements have been met and closing out the award.
  • Partner with RGC team members and school / division / RAS representatives to resolve audit issues or findings.
  • Collaborate with school / division / RAS representatives to ensure issues are well communicated and appropriate individuals are involved in responses and resolutions.
  • Track metrics to monitor efficiency and efficacy, generate reports, and help determine if operational adjustments and improvements should be made.
  • Conduct compliance reviews of high-risk transactions or awards to ensure adherence to sponsored compliance requirements on sponsored awards.
  • Utilize audit sampling techniques to obtain evidence for reasonable assurances related to high-risk transactions.
  • Contribute to RGC's mission metrics to minimize noncompliance risk related to timely billing and reporting, draw downs, collections, and award closeouts.
  • Assist in analyses due to investigations or other internal inquiries.
  • Participate in audits, fiscally related site visits, and desk reviews on sponsored awards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance and 5 years professional accounting or financial analysis experience, preferably in research/sponsored programs accounting, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Research Administrator, or Certified Financial Research Administrator preferred.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Financial System and PeopleSoft Grants Module a plus.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed and at times, on short notice.  Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
