What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teacher Assistant/Floater position at Emory Valley Center?
The Assistant Teacher assists the teacher with all classroom activities, including creating a developmentally appropriate inclusive classroom where each child's abilities are strengthened and needs are met. The Assistant Teacher must possess a deep knowledge of children from birth to five and the importance of a nurturing and responsive environment to enhance children’s development. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for ensuring that all program routines comply with Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS) licensure guidelines and Emory Valley Center (EVC) standards and regulations.

- Ability to encourage positive acceptance and education relative to children with disabilities.
- Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with children and their families and show respect for all family values and beliefs.
- Uphold the strictest confidentiality standards and follow the guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)/HITECH and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Ability to sit on the floor and play with children.
- Ability to sweep, mop, and pick things up off the floor.
- Complete ongoing professional development.

- Must complete TECTA orientation if not already completed or does not hold a degree in an early childhood field.
- Must complete all state-required training and certifications.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
- First Aid, CPR, and any required state training.
- Emory Valley Center orientation.
- Valid Tennessee driver’s license and good driving record.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Candidates must successfully complete a physical examination and provide a health clearance, as required by state licensing regulations, to ensure they are fit to work in a childcare environment.
