Key Responsibilities:
- Perform installation, splicing, termination, and testing of fiber optic cables in various environments including aerial, underground, and indoor settings.
- Assist in the deployment of telecommunications equipment such as routers, switches, and access points to support internet and TV services.
- Conduct regular maintenance inspections and troubleshooting to identify and rectify network issues promptly.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and execute network expansion projects ensuring timely completion and adherence to safety protocols.
- Operate specialized tools and equipment safely and efficiently, including fusion splicers, OTDRs, and power meters.
- Adhere to industry standards, regulations, and company policies to maintain the integrity and reliability of network infrastructure.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving service disruptions, and communicating effectively with customers during installations and repairs.
- Document work activities, including network configurations, splicing records, and service tickets accurately and comprehensively.
- Participate in training programs and stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in fiber optics and telecommunications.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or training in telecommunications, fiber optics, or related fields preferred.
- Prior experience in fiber optic cable installation, splicing, and troubleshooting is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and test equipment associated with fiber optic and telecommunications installations.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic cable types, connectors, and termination techniques.
- Ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with team members and customers.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting telephone, internet, and fiber optic systems.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interaction.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in physically demanding environments, climb poles or ladders, and lift heavy equipment.
- Team Player: Collaborative mindset to work effectively with other technicians and support teams.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergency repair situations.
- Driving License: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must be willing to travel as needed to meet customer needs.
- AFTCOM Fingerprinting: May be required to pass background check via fingerprinting. Only applicable to techs providing services in New York State.
- 1-3 years of experience in telecommunications or technology related field.
- Technical certification or associate degree preferred.
- Experience in customer service support role.
