Your Impact with Empire
The newly created role of Director, Construction & Purchasing strategizes and operationalizes initiatives to implement standard construction & purchasing practices, with a focus on efficiency and streamlining processes. This position oversees, plans, and organizes construction projects bringing cost effective building materials, advocating building code changes, evaluating techniques and processes that results in progressive standardized construction practices. The Director, Construction & Purchasing has oversight of all purchasing activities including but not limited to managing the PO system, sourcing vendors, suppliers for the end-to-end construction production, identifying, recommending, and implementing process improvements that ensures timely delivery of materials, trades and services across our construction sites in accordance with schedules and budgets.
This role is located at one of our Charlotte, NC office locations with frequent on-site visits to monitor projects.

What We Are Looking For:
- Post-secondary education in Construction, Civil Engineering, or related field
- At least 10 years of construction related experience, with at least 5 years’ experience managing residential construction projects from concept to completion
- Experience in purchasing/procurement in residential construction industry
- Working knowledge of BuildPro, MS Office, & Newstar
Bonus If You Have These Skills:
- Volume, production-based construction experience
- Experience and strong foundational knowledge of Carolinas market(s)

- Lead and manage multiple large-scale construction projects from pre-planning through to completion, ensuring adherence to master schedules.
- Oversee construction teams to ensure projects meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
- Monitor construction progress and proactively communicate with stakeholders to address delays, deficiencies, and complexities.
- Participate in negotiations for contracted trades and pre-order construction supplies.
- Create and implement standardized construction procedures to streamline production, optimize efficiency, and enhance cost-effectiveness.
- Hire, develop, and evaluate Superintendents to ensure compliance with new standardized procedures and maintain quality.
