POSITION PURPOSE

The Payroll Director is responsible for ensuring high-quality, compliant, efficient service delivery to employees and for implementing standardized payroll processes and policies across the organization. The Director of Payroll will play a critical role in enhancing employee experience and operational efficiency for optimal payroll accuracy. This newly created role provides a unique opportunity to build a best-in-class payroll function that supports the organization's rapid growth and commitment to excellence in employee service.

JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Payroll Management:
    • Develop and manage a centralized payroll that delivers high-quality, efficient services to employees across multiple states.
    • Oversee daily operations of the payroll team to ensure consistent, timely, and accurate service delivery.
    • Implement and maintain standardized payroll processes and policies across the organization to ensure consistency and compliance with federal, state and local laws.
    • Define strategy for payroll audit and controls and direct team to implement those strategies to ensure compliance with SOX controls and enhanced payrolls controls.
  • Service Delivery and Employee Experience:
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and employee satisfaction.
    • Implement technologies and process improvements that streamline payroll operations and improve the overall employee experience.
    • Monitor and evaluate service delivery metrics including payroll accuracy, timeliness, and employee feedback, to ensure high standards are maintained.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with HR leaders, HR Operations, Accounting, Finance, Audit and other departments to ensure alignment and integration of payroll with broader organizational goals.
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to support the payroll shared services function.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related escalations and strategic initiatives.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, coach, and develop the payroll team to ensure high performance and continuous professional growth.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment that encourages innovation and excellence.
  • Establish clear performance goals and metrics for the payroll team, providing regular feedback and professional development opportunities.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, finance, accounting or a related field; master’s degree preferred.

Experience/Skills
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in payroll operations with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now
  • Proven experience in developing and managing payroll services in a large, dispersed organization.
  • Experience with system integration, data governance, and ensuring data integrity across business platforms.
  • Ability to analyze and solve system challenges, providing clear solutions to business stakeholders.
  • Experience with process automation and recommending system enhancements to improve efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, policies, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and reporting tools.
  • Experience with HR technologies and process improvement
