This is a year-round, full-time salary exempt position. Base salary of $49,522 with additional compensation for past work-related experience and level of education.

Purpose : The Specialist - Information Technology will design, implement, and support technology initiatives. To accomplish these tasks the Specialist - Information Technology will coordinate with technicians and work closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.

Responsible to : Director of IT Operations

Payment rate : Salaried position as established by the Emporia Board of Education

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Driver's License.
  • Possess and maintain certifications / experience in technology devices and maintenance.
  • Experience with deployment and maintenance of virtual environments.
  • Experience with deployment and maintenance of current operating systems.
  • Health and Inoculation Certification on file in the Central Office.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Functions :

  • Serve as a contact person for technology questions and service needs.
  • Work effectively in cooperation with district personnel to insure a consistent standard of excellence for technology support.
  • Assist building staff, students, or others with technology support instruction both onsite and remotely via management software or telephone.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of gSuite, Active Directory, Azure, MDM Management, and future SAAS platforms.
  • Provide high level support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for district hardware and software.
  • Participate in / provide training for district staff as necessary to assure maximum efficiency with respect to the operation of district technology equipment / software.
  • Assist with the inventory of technology equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with installation, maintenance and support of district projects as assigned.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of student and staff data systems.
  • Complete certifications supporting district infrastructure.
  • Track technology work requests / projects. Complete or refer to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Obtain, gather, input, and organize pertinent data as needed for technology requests / projects.
  • Supervise small teams to achieve district technology goals and objectives.
  • Develop strategies for installation, maintenance, and support of district technology initiatives.
  • Design and assess ongoing hardware / firmware needs to ensure efficient and effective use of equipment; review and make recommendations for purchase and / or upgrade of equipment / software to reflect decisions that will afford optimal growth.
  • Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions :

  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • Occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.
  • Occasionally requires climbing and balancing.
  • Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
  • General Responsibilities :

  • Support and facilitate the mission and vision of the Emporia Public Schools.
  • Support the ongoing development / revision, implementation, and monitoring / assessment of curriculum as outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.
  • Obtain equipment, resources and materials through processes outlined by the Assistant Superintendent of Business.
  • Support policies and practices for licensed and classified personnel through processes outlined by the Associate Superintendent of Personnel.
  • Effectively utilize the expertise of other district professionals and / or outside consultants to support the efficient and effective operation of district processes / systems.
  • Provide for the safety / general welfare of students at all times.
  • Develop and maintain documentation relative to program funding (i.e. Grants and Awards).
  • Stay abreast of new technologies to facilitate and support student learning, data management, and communication with respect to best practice.
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
  • Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules / regulations including but not limited to :
  • Acceptable use of technology

  • Sexual and racial harassment
  • Child abuse reporting
  • Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
  • Communicate effectively with administrators, parents, staff, and community organizations with regard to student progress / needs.
  • Interact with students, parents, and staff in a professional manner demonstrating tolerance of individual differences, patience, and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance; accurate recordkeeping and timely submission of required reports; participate in building / district level committee tasks, etc.
  • Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
  • Maintain safe and well-organized workspaces.
  • Be prepared to implement the Building Crisis Plan; actively participate in response drills.
  • Respond to change in a productive manner.
  • Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
