Payroll Technician
Under direction, performs accounting and clerical functions in connection with District payroll matters.
DUTIES:
Assembles, tabulates, calculates, verifies, posts and files payroll data; performs record keeping functions related to the District's payroll activities; assists in the revision, formulation and implementation of payroll record keeping systems and procedures; arranges, posts and balances payroll data; calculates employee absences and maintains the District's employee attendance accounting; serves as the District's liaison for employee benefits, and interacts with employees, insurance representatives and brokers, and health care providers; completes employee benefits reports and maintains all records related to employee benefits. Establishes and maintains employee ledger cards and other payroll records; prepares quarterly and annual related payroll reports; verifies the accuracy of various payroll reports; prepares payroll analyses as required; makes complex arithmetical calculations and verifies computations. Tests Instructional Aides; performs employee orientation. Performs other related work as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Knowledge of:
. purpose, methods and practices of school district compensation programs
. payroll record keeping and accounting
. District and county policies, rules and regulations, and laws relating to payroll matters
. the San Diego County Office of Education Payroll system and procedures
Ability to:
. perform payroll functions with minimal supervision
. maintain, prepare, review payroll reports and summaries
. make complex arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy
. operate office machines and computers
. understand and carry out oral and written directions
. type at a net corrected speed of 40 words per minute
. establish and maintain cooperative working relations
Experience:
. three years of increasingly responsible experience in financial record keeping systems and calculations
. one year of responsible experience in payroll activities
Education:
. equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by courses in bookkeeping, accounting or payroll procedures.
