Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Location: Indian Health Service (IHS) Facilities – Oklahoma City Area

Job Type: Contract (Base Year 4 Option Years)
Work Schedule:

• 8 & 12-hour shifts available (Day/Night, Weekends, Holidays)
• Monday - Friday schedules with occasional weekend and outreach event coverage

Job Summary:

The Indian Health Service (IHS) is seeking Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide direct patient care across multiple IHS healthcare facilities. The LPN will be responsible for vital signs monitoring, administering medications, assisting in procedures, coordinating patient care, and documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This role requires strong clinical skills and a commitment to providing high-quality, culturally competent care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Key Responsibilities: Patient Care & Clinical Duties:

• Perform direct patient care activities, including vital signs, immunizations, medication administration, and assisting providers during procedures.
• Assist in managing pediatric and adult immunization programs.
• Prepare patients for medical examinations and assist with provider scheduling.
• Ensure accurate medical documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
• Screen patients for health measures and assess medical history updates.
• Arrange patient appointments and referrals using the IHS scheduling system.
• Monitor clinic patient flow and address urgent medical needs when necessary.
• Maintain compliance with infection control procedures and safety protocols.

Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities:

• Retrieve and update patient medical records before appointments.
• Ensure patient consent forms are completed before invasive procedures.
• Assist in EHR data entry, including orders, referrals, and reports.
• Assist in community outreach vaccination programs (approximately 20% travel).
• Participate in clinic staff meetings, in-service training, and educational programs.
• Provide care according to IHS standards and Joint Commission guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements: Education & Licensure:

• Diploma in Practical Nursing from a Vo-Tech school.
• Active, unrestricted LPN license (valid in any U.S. state).
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license (required for community outreach travel).

Experience & Skills:

• Prior clinical experience in outpatient, hospital, or tribal healthcare settings preferred.
• Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (training provided).
• Strong patient communication and cultural sensitivity.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Work Environment & Conditions:

• On-site position at IHS healthcare facilities in Oklahoma & Kansas.
• Travel required for community outreach vaccination events (government vehicle provided).
• Background check & fingerprinting required before hire (per IHS regulations).

Immunization & Health Requirements:

• Proof of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity.
• Annual Influenza vaccine.
• Hepatitis A & B immunization (or signed declination).
• History of Chickenpox (Varicella) or positive titer.
• Tetanus-Diphtheria (Td) booster within the last 5 years.
• Negative TB skin test (PPD) within the last 12 months.
