Job Type: Contract (1-Year Base with Four 1-Year Options)
Work Schedule: Full-time, On-site
Compensation: Competitive, up to $52/hr, with lodging at $165 and per diem at $68
Job Summary:
The Northern Colorado VA Outpatient Clinic is seeking two experienced Medical Lab Technicians to provide high-quality sterile processing and medical supply services. The ideal candidates will be responsible for decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing medical instruments and equipment across various hospital departments, including surgical specialties, dental, ophthalmology, ENT, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Decontamination & Cleaning:
- Receive and inspect contaminated instruments from various departments.
- Perform cleaning procedures using soaking, scrubbing, ultrasonic equipment, and automated washers.
- Ensure proper removal of blood, tissue, bone fragments, and body fluids.
- Instrument Assembly & Sterilization:
- Assemble surgical sets and trays, ranging from simple sets to complex micro-surgical instruments.
- Disassemble, troubleshoot, clean, and sterilize complex surgical equipment.
- Properly load and operate sterilizers, including Steam, V-Pro, Medivators, and Trophon disinfecting units.
- Monitor sterilization cycles and perform bacteriological tests to ensure compliance.
- Post-Sterilization & Quality Control:
- Conduct post-sterilization inspections to ensure peel pouches are sealed, wraps remain intact, and chemical indicators have changed color.
- Label sterilized items with dates and expiration tags and ensure proper stocking on shelves using the first-in, first-out method.
- Verify effectiveness of sterilization and ensure all items meet VA and regulatory compliance standards.
- Compliance & Documentation:
- Adhere to guidelines set by Office of Sterile Processing (VA), HSPA, AAMI, FDA, CDC, and Joint Commission.
- Maintain proper documentation for all sterilization processes and inventory tracking.
- Work in accordance with VA infection control protocols and patient safety regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- US Citizen or Green Card Holder
- 36 months of relevant experience, with at least 12 months in sterile processing
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
- CMST Certification (Certified Medical Supply Technician)
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-demand hospital environment
- Strong understanding of medical sterilization techniques and infection control
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in a VA or government healthcare setting
- Knowledge of VA EHR systems and compliance procedures
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle delicate surgical instruments
