The Avionics Technician provides leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on support in testing, troubleshooting, and repairing avionics and electrical systems in aircraft. This role ensures compliance with safety and quality standards while mentoring junior technicians, reducing costs, and meeting schedule requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience:
- experience in an avionics/electrical career field
- Certifications (Preferred):
- A&P License (Airframe and Powerplant)
- FCC License
- NCATT Certification
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide expert troubleshooting and repair of avionics and aircraft electrical systems to ensure defect-free performance.
- Mentor and train personnel, supporting cross-training initiatives while maintaining a safety-conscious, quality-driven workforce.
- Oversee the installation and functional testing of electrical and avionics components per engineering specifications, drawings, and maintenance manuals.
- Ensure high-quality repairs by implementing proper troubleshooting techniques and training others in diagnosing and resolving system discrepancies.
- Repair or replace defective components and wiring, utilizing advanced techniques such as splicing, soldering, and pinning.
- Coordinate and perform engineering changes and modifications as required, ensuring compliance with all technical and regulatory requirements.
- Set up and operate test equipment, conducting functional and operational tests to evaluate system performance and reliability.
- Review and pre-inspect work to minimize rework, ensuring all work is properly documented and in compliance with company and FAA standards.
- Maintain and calibrate test equipment to support avionics system reliability.
- Ensure compliance with company programs, including FOD control, tool control, 5S, and safety regulations.
- Adapt to schedule changes and coordinate with other disciplines to ensure efficient workflow and project completion.
- Support aircraft certification and final phase testing, including flight tests if required.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Self-inspect avionics testing functions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Provide expertise in troubleshooting other aircraft systems such as hydraulics, landing gear, flight controls, and environmental controls (preferred).
- Obtain APU run and engine run qualifications (preferred).
Skills & Requirements:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams.
- Strong understanding of avionics systems, electrical troubleshooting, and aircraft operations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to train and mentor junior technicians.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $28.00 - $40.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
