At Encompass Community Supports, our full-time employees work 37.5 hours weekly.
Our Day Support Specialist II teaches social, educational, independent living skills, safety, hygiene and communication skills to adults with developmental disabilities and physical disabilities; providing transportation services to clients; work is performed under regular supervision.
SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Teach health, hygiene, cooking, nutrition, exercise, money management, daily and independent living skills, relationships, safety skills, safety drills, emergency skills, mobility training, socialization, communication, functional academics, budgeting, basic job skills. Individual and group formats, on and off-site.
- Provides individual and group training on basic social, physical, communication, mobility, educational, program/community safety skills.
- Provides physical assistance/support to clients as needed including assistance in toileting, eating, changing, and personal hygiene/bathing.
- Maintains individual records. Daily documentation of supports and skill building activities in the individuals’ person centered plan. Track, analyze and prepare reports/reviews on progress or regression towards goals.
- Plans and prepares for daily, weekly, and monthly activities.
- Develops/implements person centered plans for individuals with a variety of needs and diverse services.
- Works with individual, guardians/AR's caregivers and individuals’ treatment team to develop and monitor Individual Service Plans.
- Communicates individual’s issues and concerns with interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Administers and monitor medication, side effects and individuals’ wellbeing. Assist and document seizure and medical events/needs.
- Documents significant events; emergencies, behavioral, and medical.
- Assures individual human rights are protected.
- Provides transportation to program site, job site, and volunteer opportunities and on social community outings.
- Provides individual and group training on basic job and specific work-related skills.
- Provides supervision and on-site training at volunteer locations and work sites.
- Assist with crisis prevention and intervention when required.
- Cleans program building.
- Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of basic teaching techniques and vocational training techniques, including methods of reinforcement and prompting.
- General knowledge of community resources available for clients.
- General knowledge of behavior management and crisis intervention.
- Ability to work with intellectually disabled, elderly and other special population clients.
- Ability to practice sound hygiene and sanitation techniques.
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Valid VA driver's license
- Employment with Encompass Community Supports is contingent upon the successful completion of our background check process (criminal, DMV, education, drug screening, reference check, DSS, OIG and SAM).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates’ degree in Human Services or a related field.
- Spanish speaking is a plus.
