The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineer I role is responsible for assisting in designing, developing, and improving manufacturing processes, work center design and ergonomics, material and information flow, business processes, and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system accuracy and functionality. The position reports to the Senior Industrial Manufacturing Engineer and works closely with production teams to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to increase capability, capacity, throughput, efficiency and reduce costs.
Responsibilities:
- Support production schedules and improvement plans for inventory, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and packaging.
- Assist with planning, coordinating, installing, and setting up new capital equipment.
- Help design and implement manufacturing processes to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Capacity (SQDC) metrics and reduce costs.
- Maintain ERP master data, BOMs, and manufacturing methods for accuracy, consistency, and real-time production visibility.
- Ensure that ERP Master data reflects and helps document the processes in place in production.
- Assist in the creation, documentation, and implementation of standard work and process control documentation.
- Conduct time studies, validate labor standards, and analyze variances to drive improvements.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Planning, Purchasing, and other teams to optimize material and information flow.
- Extract and analyze data to assess capacity, material needs, and strategies for cycle time, takt time, and lead time improvements.
- Assist in troubleshooting production bottlenecks and inefficiencies, recommending solutions for process optimization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering or a related discipline required.
- Basic understanding of ERP systems preferred.
- Internship or coursework emphasizing production manufacturing or supply chain environments preferred.
- Ability and willingness to spend full days working on the shop floor as well as full days sitting at a desk.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word required; experience with Visio is a plus.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks or AutoCAD for basic layouts and tooling design preferred.
- Exposure to data analysis and statistical methods preferred, with a willingness to develop skills in data extraction, modeling, and forecasting.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical data required.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills to collaborate with teams and contribute to process improvements.
- Willingness to learn, support, and at times lead improvement projects under guidance from senior engineers.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds when handling parts, materials, and products.
