Job Summary:
Energy Partners Propane, the fastest-growing propane provider in Western Montana, is seeking a dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations. This individual will play a critical role in strategic planning, financial stewardship, and organizational growth, while staying true to our small-town values. The CFO will work closely with the General Manager and leadership team to ensure sound financial decisions and long-term sustainability. This role also includes oversight of the accounting team and supports our mission to serve with integrity and a community-first approach. The CFO will also present monthly financial and key performance metrics to the Board of Directors and serve as the primary financial liaison at board meetings.
General Job Requirements:
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial regulatory requirements
- Willingness to work extended hours as needed during peak periods (e.g., budget season, audits).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and OneDrive.
- Comfortable with financial software systems and general ledger management.
- Ability to prepare and present clear, concise, and actionable financial reports to leadership and board members.
- Strong communicator, able to translate complex financial data into strategic insights.

- Ability to work collaboratively with executive leadership and across departments.
- Hands-on and proactive approach; willing to dive into the details when needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve as a key advisor to the General Manager and Executive Team on all financial matters.
- Provide insight and recommendations on both short-term and long-term financial planning.
- Financial forecasting, budgeting, and scenario planning.
- Prepare financial Statements and reports for the Board of Directors.
- Evaluate business performance and contribute to the development of strategic goals.
- Oversee and ensure the accuracy of the general ledger and all financial statements.
- Manage cash flow to ensure company liquidity and maximize interest income.
- Maintain timely reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure financial reporting is accurate, timely, and in a user-friendly format.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing accounting team.
- Provide leadership and support for payroll processing and employee benefits administration.
- Oversight of billing and proper coding/approval of vendor invoices.
- Oversee employee deductions and vendor reporting related to payroll.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and lead the annual financial audit process.
- Maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, insurance providers, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure timely submission of all government reporting and filings.
Education/Experience Requirements: (Preferred Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related required.
- CPA or MBA strongly preferred
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in financial leadership roles, ideally in a multi-location or operationally complex environment.
- Experience managing accounting teams and overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Propane or energy industry experience preferred but not required.
