Job Purpose
Manages and coaches the Manufacturing Engineering group that performs a variety of activities including development, implementation, and maintenance of industry best practice manufacturing methods and practices. Responsible for the creation, implementation, and / or review of manufacturing process and material flow, BOM structure, assembly documentation, tooling requirements, line design, facility layout, and design for manufacturability of products. May be assigned to manage inter-departmental deliverables required for production and outsource products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Management of the personnel, policies, and procedures of the plant Manufacturing Engineering department.
- Mentor and coach junior members of the Manufacturing Engineering team.
- Lead in the development of new and innovative manufacturing methods and processes.
- Develop and manage schedules for completion of Manufacturing Engineering assignments and projects based on divisional and plant objectives.
- Ensure that manufacturability, quality, cost efficiency, operating efficiency, customer and / or company standard requirements are achieved through the implementation and adherence to the standards of the EnerSys Operating System. ( EOS )
- Coordinate the participants and drive the activity in the design review process to ensure that Design for Manufacturability, Test, Fabrication, Assembly, Service, Sourcing, etc. (DFx), principles are followed. Ensure that production capabilities, consistency of engineering specifications, and utilization of existing manufacturing methods and workmanship standards are met for both new and existing products
- Work with vendors, Engineering, Quality, Production and Materials to explore all opportunities to create new manufacturing processes, design alternatives, and methods that improve product quality and cost efficiency
- Develop and coordinate facility layout projects and the effort to ensure adherence to EOS standards.
- Serve as the department representative in the Management of Daily Improvement ( MDI ) process. Coordinate activities and assignments from Accountability Tags for the Manufacturing Engineering Department.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of manufacturing plans for pre-production builds to include : Line design, process and material flow ( CCF and MMF ), ergonomics, tooling design and definition, integration of quality, creation of assembly documentation, and coordination of affected departments.
- Coordinate technical support for submission and implementation of engineering change orders (ECOs), engineering action requests (EARs), deviations, product holds and product hold releases.
- Analyze, create, implement and maintain product routings.
- Assist with the disposition and drive appropriate corrective action for issues submitted to Material Review Board (MRB).
- Implement and maintain department ISO processes.
- Supervise manufacturing personnel as required.
- Generate and maintain schedule for assigned production and outsourcing projects.
- Interact with all departments to enhance mutual understanding of production and outsourcing capabilities, requirements, and status.
- Provide executive summary of projects and elevate issues that arise that impact approved implementation schedules or cost targets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
