JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY:
The HCC/Risk Adjustment Coding Specialist serves as the subject matter expert on HCC scoring and risk adjustment coding. As such, this team member leads risk adjustment improvement efforts and facilitates the comprehensive capture of chronic conditions for the purpose of accurately reporting HCCs.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop tools and resources for education of clinicians and other staff as a part of improvement efforts.
- Collaborates with revenue cycle, quality, regional directors, practice managers, executive leaders, and other stakeholders to facilitate improvement and developing action plans.
- Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills to identify opportunities for improvement and develop solutions by conducting 1:1 in person meetings, webinars, and/or classroom training sessions (60-70% of position workload).
- Adheres to department and organizational policies and guidelines.
- Participates in the onboarding of new providers and clinical staff, educating on risk adjustment coding.
- Maintains a high level of competency related to clinical documentation and coding and government regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- CRC Certification required.
- Coding Certification through American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist Physician Based (CCS-P) or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
- Professional Medical Auditor Certification (CPMA) (CMAS)-preferred but not required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience.
- Local travel is required approximately 70% of the time.
