AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Structural Engineer will play a crucial role in guiding the development of preliminary designs, optimizing rack layouts, and coordinating project details with internal teams, customers, and external stakeholders. This position will also involve the development of design tools, supporting R&D initiatives, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Guide the development of preliminary designs and optimize rack layouts to identify the most cost-effective solutions.
- Collaborate with the estimating team to create preliminary designs for quotes.
- Coordinate project details through effective communication with customers and external design partners.
- Assist the design team by addressing questions and providing technical guidance.
- Provide necessary information for the completion of title pages for project documentation.
- Participate in internal reviews of project drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant codes.
- Oversee the process of obtaining PE stamps for project documents.
- Support manufacturing teams by addressing design-related inquiries and assisting Project Management and Site Management in resolving field questions and issues.
- Be available for site visits to support project execution as needed.
- Complete the development of design tools, streamlining the analysis of cold-rolled shapes using industry-standard software such as CUFSM and CFS.
- Finalize the development of new preliminary design tools with a focus on designs.
- Automate the analysis of cold-rolled shapes utilizing industry-standard tools like CUFSM and CFS.
- Assist in R&D initiatives by contributing to new projects and enhancing designs.
- Collaborate continuously with R&D engineers to gain insights and optimize rack designs.
- Foster relationships with Engineers of Record (EOR) partners to secure early buy-in for new design concepts.
- Actively participate in industry groups to stay informed on trends and developments within structural engineering.
- Develop expertise in all relevant design codes, standards, and tools (e.g., CUFSM).
- Continuously update knowledge of changes in design codes and regulations to ensure compliance in all projects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is based in an office setting, with the majority of work conducted at a desk/computer. Occasional travel may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position predominantly involves sitting for extended periods, with occasional responsibilities that require the movement of objects. The role requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina, but does not involve frequent physical activity or heavy lifting.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or the ability to obtain licensure if not currently held.
- 3-5 years of experience in structural engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
- Cold form steel design experience a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
