What are the responsibilities and job description for the Setup Technician position at Engineering Industries, Inc.?
As a Setup Technician, you are responsible for the timely and efficient set up of injection molding machines, sprue pickers, auxiliary equipment, and other equipment related to the plastic injection molding process. The Setup person is responsible for reviewing and understanding the job packet documentation prior to setting up the equipment and the press, and for troubleshooting both to ensure product runs efficiently and to standard.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform the complete setup of the injection molding machine and workstation for production.
- Interpret blueprint specifications, set-up documentation, control plans and manufacturing instructions.
- Make necessary connections of the electrical, hydraulic and cooling systems to the mold.
- Ensure that the correct plastic material, plastic melt temperatures, shot size, injection speed and pressures are set.
- Start the molding machine for production when next run is ready.
- Trouble-shoot and correct routine molding problems.
- Organize the workstation layout according to established criteria.
- Setup of auxiliary equipment when it is to be used at the press.
- Maintain accurate production setup documentation for each molding machine and workstation.
- Investigate ways to optimize production and share any recommendations with production management.
- Review the operation of the molding machines and auxiliary equipment for mechanical problems and alert the appropriate personnel if any issues are found.
- Monitor press cycle times during production and notify production management of jobs requiring attention.
- Maintain the mold storage area in a neat and orderly manner.
- Perform all job functions with a focus on safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
