What are the responsibilities and job description for the BEAM WELD TEAM LEAD 2ND SHIFT position at Engineering Services and Products Company (ESAPCO)?
Summary:
The Weld/Beam Team Leader will be responsible for assisting the Weld Manager to produce the welding department. The main emphasis is assisting the Manager in leading the welding team regarding workflow, assembly, fabrication, and quality. This is a safety sensitive position due to this being a working hands-on team lead role. This individual will be using forklifts and combi’s, machinery such as shears, robotic welders, plasma, brake press, pallet jacks, hoists, banders, tube benders, saws, laser machines for steel pipe or beams. Will also be using paint carousel, paint spraying guns and equipment, chemicals, sanders, grinders and other equipment or machines as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- This is a working leadership position. While there will be daily leadership duties with this position it is expected that a large percentage of your time will still be producing and welding.
- Be the “ leader” for the welders and assist management in directing the work activities as necessary. Position yourself as the “go to person” for this role.
- Perform work assigned by Weld Manager that will include the efficient flow of materials in and out of the work cells.
- Responsible for assigning work to employees within the work cells.
- Responsible for collaborating with the Weld Manager in a manner that will reach goals of volume and efficiency.
- Track parts through welding department to make sure they are done completely and accurately.
- This position requires some flexibility as the workload demands. There may be instances where there are workers on your team not normally in weld. It may require you or your team to help in other areas such as tacking, painting etc.
- Responsible along with Weld Manager for the overall safety of the department. Ensure everyone is following safety rules, policies and procedures and ensure employees are not putting themselves in harm’s way.
- Assist the Weld Manager in evaluating employees’ work performance within their cells and assisting with performance evaluations.
- Uses Epicor as needed to report use and movement of materials.
- Ability to set up and operate welding equipment.
- Repair and maintain production equipment as needed.
- Support Weld Manager in making sure welders complete paperwork such as filter change and production paperwork on a weekly basis along with all other reports.
- Report any issues to the Weld Manager immediately for resolution.
- Be a team player and a role model. Contribute to a positive atmosphere of cooperation, productivity, team spirit and be a champion of the ownership thinking program.
- Assist with training employees as directed by management. Be a mentor and a teacher.
- Keep workspace clean and organized and assist other employees with this initiative as well.
- Any other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must have relevant welding experience along with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and other specifications. Must have strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
