What are the responsibilities and job description for the Property Accountant position at Engtal?
Our client, a successful commercial real estate firm, is looking for a Property Accountant to manage the daily accounting functions for a portfolio of properties. This role is hybrid, offering a flexible schedule in the Downtown Chicago office. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with supporting documentation.
- Review and maintain general ledger accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Reconcile bank accounts daily, resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Monitor mortgage, escrow, interest, and real estate tax payments for accuracy.
- Calculate and record expense accruals and maintain amortization schedules.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations for assigned properties.
- Complete annual operating expense and real estate tax reconciliations.
- Process monthly management fees and ensure proper tenant billing per lease agreements.
- Handle tenant security deposit refunds when necessary.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis alongside property managers and senior accountants.
- Identify and resolve balance sheet and income statement variances, posting adjusting entries as needed.
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- 3 years of real estate accounting experience.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
