Position Overview:  This position is responsible for managing and monitoring organizational and grant budgets, ensuring compliance with financial and grant guidelines, and managing the monthly payroll related allocations.  The Budget Manager works closely with the Director of Finance and collaborates with development and program directors to maintain accurate budgetary oversight and allocation of resources. This role ensures organizational financial fidelity, assists in strategic budget planning, and supports annual audits.


Key Responsibilities: 

Budget Creation and Oversight:

  • Collaborate with program directors, development team, and the director of finance to develop program and grant budgets.
  • Monitor and manage budget expenditures to ensure compliance with financial guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing the organization’s annual budget.

Grant Management:

  • Allocate staff time and payroll expenses according to grant requirements.
  • Ensure fidelity to grant budgets and proper documentation of resource allocations.

Budget Adjustments:

  • Track budget performance and complete amendments as necessary.
  • Ensure alignment of expenses with organizational goals and funding requirements.

Reporting and Auditing:

  • Generate and maintain accurate budget-to-actual reports for grants, programs, and the organization.
  • Prepare for and assist with the organization’s annual fiscal audit.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with the finance team and program staff to ensure consistent financial compliance.
  • Ensure program staff understand grant financial requirements and restrictions.

  • High degree of accuracy in budget preparation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Strong ability to identify and rectify discrepancies in financial records.
  • Ability to anticipate financial challenges and develop proactive solutions.
  • Aligning financial practices with organizational goals and priorities.

Grant Compliance and Management

  • Expertise in aligning financial practices with grant guidelines and restrictions.
  • Proficiency in tracking, allocating, and reporting grant-related expenses.

Collaboration/Communication/Organization

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with finance, development, and program teams.
  • Clear and concise communication of financial requirements, challenges, and updates to stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Effective time management to balance day-to-day operations with long-term planning.

Knowledge of Nonprofit Finance

  • Familiarity with community-based work, particularly within Latinx or underserved communities.
  • Understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of nonprofit financial management.

Additional Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in budget management, grant compliance, and cost allocation.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated expertise in nonprofit finance and monitoring.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and problem-solve effectively.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial software systems preferred.

Compensation: The salary range for this position annually is between 55,000 and 75,000.  Salary is commensurate with experience in addition to the generous benefits package listed below.

  • Additional benefits. Enlace Chicago also provides life insurance coverage and short-term and long-term disability insurance at no cost to you with options of additional coverage.  
  • Retirement program. Enlace Chicago offers a voluntary 403(B) plan which begins at a 1% contribution. Enrollment is available after a 90-day grace period beginning on the first day of employment.  An enrollment packet will be mailed to you.
  • Paid time off.  You will receive 96 hours of Upon Hire hours, which will be prorated depending on your start date. After your 3rd month, you will accrue 3.33 hours per pay period or a total of 6.66 per month . All vacation days are considered above and beyond the approved holiday schedule. Enlace has 12 paid holidays with a Holiday week between Christmas and New Year’s Day that will not be deducted from your PTO.
