POSITION SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Director, Continuous Improvement, the Senior Applied Scientist will combine domain area expertise, with data collection, analysis, and visualization skills to develop statistical models that solve business problems, relieve process related bottlenecks, and offer solutions that maximize revenue and support revenue cycle work streams, patient care delivery, throughput, and desired operational outcomes.
This position will supervise and mentor the Continuous Improvement Analysts and be responsible for data delivery standards and best practice for enterprise projects and department deliverables. The Senior Applied Scientist will also be assigned projects as an individual contributor providing data collection, analysis and visualization for process improvement and enterprise level projects.
This position will collaborate with organizational leaders, clinicians, and other stakeholders to guide actionable outcomes. This includes developing process measures and Key Performance Indictors (KPIs) that contribute to operational decision-making and ongoing improvement efforts.
Data Collection and Analysis
- Write and optimize SQL queries for data retrieval from relational databases
- Utilize tools such as SQL, python, and R for data manipulation, cleaning, and analysis
- Conduct in-depth data analysis to identify areas for improvement in healthcare operations
- Develop and implement mathematical models and algorithms to optimize delivery of patient care, business operations and other resources
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in operations research science and optimization to drive innovation

The Senior Applied Scientist will have or develop an understanding of health care operations, regulatory requirements, and clinical workflows to inform data analysis as it pertains to assigned projects. This position must possess the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization to elicit requirements, perform gap analysis, identify desired outcomes, and provide measurable KPIs that support and drive material and measurable operational change. This position must have the ability to lead, mentor, and provide best practice for junior staff in the collection, analysis, and visualization of data. Apply change management best practice to resolve conflicts within and among departments and disciplines throughout the Organization and with physicians. Apply the necessary change management skills to lead implementations that will result in significant changes to workflow process for associates, physicians, and physicians' office staffs throughout the organization.
