The Enoch Pratt Library has an opening for a Librarian II (Cataloger) at our Central Branch. The Librarian is responsible for the creation and maintenance of bibliographic records in the Library catalog. This position represents an important function working "behind the scenes" to catalog new library materials for distribution to all library locations and to ensure timely delivery to library customers.

Summary of Duties:
- Catalogs materials, in all subject areas, formats, and languages, employing OCLC Connexion Client, MarcEdit, and SIRSI bibload reports.
- Creates original catalog records when no sufficient records exist.
- Enhances catalog records for materials in all formats and subjects to make resources more discoverable by library customers.
- Proactively facilitates the cataloging and processing of special, “not-in catalog” materials, as well as time-sensitive materials.
- Loads vendor-supplied records into the integrated library system, editing for quality and consistency.
- Communicates with coworkers and clarifies cataloging procedures as necessary.
- Evaluates and recommends cataloging standards of either general or subject/age specialized materials for Central or a branch library collection (updating documentation as necessary).
- Serves as the assistant to the Department Manager, and may serve as the Department Manager in the absence of the manager.
- Monitors the collection of activity data and assists in the formulation of weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
- Demonstrates superior computer literacy and ability to operate efficiently in Library databases and other cataloging-specific systems.
- Provides cataloging support to Pratt librarians and staff, and manages vendor relationships.
- Participates in the implementation and administration of specific department activities.
- Participates in standing committees related to library data quality initiatives.
- Participates in continuing education activities as required and in maintenance of State librarian certification activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters in Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university.
- Public Librarian Certificate, or requirements necessary to apply for a Maryland Public Librarian Certificate, within 90 days of starting employment.
- One year of cataloging or data-maintenance experience.
- Experience with Sirsi, Polaris, Voyager, or a related ILS system.
- Experience with Google Suite, MS Office, and MS Excel.
- Physical Requirements: Physical exertion such as standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, reaching; pushing loaded book trucks; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes of books or journals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with the creation of original bibliographic records preferred.
- Experience with BibFrame or MARC records desired.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and use of automated library systems (especially SirsiDynix Symphony).
- Ability to type at least 30 wpm accurately and to keep accurate statistics.
- Ability to perform detailed and repetitive tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google suite software.
- Ability to set priorities and work both independently and with others in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
