Job Description
Creative Music Center is seeking a fun and professional part-time staff member to serve as a luthier/strings repair technician for all things strings! This staff member will serve as the primary point of contact for our students, families, and local educators to perform high quality repairs on orchestral instruments including upright bass.
Primary responsibilities include:
- High quality and efficient repairs, including bridge work and neck rebuilding
- Restringing for all string instruments
- General maintenance for violin, viola, cello, electric and upright bass
- Work with customers in person on the phone to provide expert guidance on repairs and general retail inquiries
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:
- A degree from an accredited instrument repair school or equivalent experience.
- Recent graduates encouraged to apply.
- Rudimentary strings repair skills.
- Basic play test knowledge. Instrumental virtuosity is welcome but is not a qualification for employment.
- Comfortability with the use of a 6ft ladder and lifting and moving cases/boxes.
- Basic computer and telephone skills.
- A pleasant attitude, listening skills, sense of humor, and ease in working closely with fellow employees.
- A robust appreciation for punctuality, reliable transportation, and the ability to pass a routine background check.
The successful candidate will be an organized, motivated self-starter with a strong customer service mindset. Prior experience as a luthier required.
The desired time commitment for this position is approximately 20-25 hours/week. Pay will be commensurate with experience, and a 401(k) with company matching is available to all of our employees after 3 months on the job. Health, dental, and vision benefits are available to employees who average 30 hours per week.
