Job Title : Data Engineer
Position Summary
The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining efficient, scalable data pipelines and architecture to support Ensign College's strategic data initiatives. This individual will ensure that data is accessible, reliable, and optimized for performance, with a strong emphasis on using Snowflake as the primary data warehouse. The Data Engineer will collaborate closely with data analysts, institutional research, and key stakeholders to understand business needs and deliver data solutions that drive informed decision-making.

Essential Job Functions
Data Architecture and Management :
Design and implement robust, scalable, and high-performance data architectures to support analytics and reporting needs.Manage and optimize data pipelines and ETL processes to integrate, transform, and deliver data from various sources into Snowflake and Databricks.Ensure data accuracy, quality, and integrity through the development of automated data validation and monitoring processes.Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for data processes, workflows, and system architectures.Data Optimization and Performance :
Monitor and troubleshoot data infrastructure issues, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.Collaboration and Support :
Work closely with data analysts, institutional research, and other teams to understand data needs and deliver actionable data solutions.Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure data infrastructure aligns with organizational objectives and future growth plans.Provide support for ad-hoc data analysis and reporting requests, leveraging data engineering expertise to deliver insights.Data Governance and Security :
Stay current with best practices in data security and work to implement measures that safeguard sensitive information.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.Minimum of 3 years of experience in data engineering, with hands-on expertise in Snowflake or similar cloud-based data warehouse platforms.Experience with Databricks in addition to Snowflake a strong plus.Proven experience and comfortability designing and implementing ETL processes and data pipelines, especially extracting from diverse sources using Python, APIs, or other methods.Strong proficiency in SQL, and performance tuning.Strong proficiency in the data modeling process, especially using the Kimball method.Proficiency in Python.Experience and comfortability with cloud-based infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) including AWS Lambda, S3, IAM, and events.Strong background in Git and GitHub2 years of experience using DBTSkills & Abilities
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Collaborative team player who can build effective partnerships across departments to drive data-driven decisions.Familiarity with data governance and compliance standards.Preferred Qualifications
