USC – Well Service Shop Hand Job Summary The Shop Hand is responsible for ensuring tools are in excellent working order and rebuilds, cleans, and repairs tools. This position requires a strong knowledge of various production and workover tools, e.g. BOPE, rental equipment, test units pipe wranglers, performing test jobs, and power swivels.  In addition, the Shop Hand must be experienced at using grinders, power saws, spray paint equipment, and various other heavy duty shop tools. Pay Range Depending on experience, salary range is $26.00 - $28.00 an hour. Internal Relationships Rig Crews, Rig Managers, Field Superintendent, District Manager External Relationships Contract support – Customers and 3rd party contractors Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities Works in a safe, healthy and environmentally protective manner and keeps a clean presentable work space Rebuilds and repairs many various blowout preventers, accumulators, valves, swivels, etc. Inspects tools and ensures quality rebuilds and materials. Ensures tools are cleaned painted and in good working order and tested. Performed field work on equipment including pressure test jobs. Responsible for performing deliveries and repairs of equipment. Uses the correct protective clothing and equipment as provided by Ensign and guards against misuse or damage to such equipment. Reports any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self corrected, or injury incurred during the course of work, no matter how minor. Avoids injury resulting from manual handling tasks, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling techniques Technical Competencies Understands and is capable of reading all safety / training requirements and materials Behavioral Competencies Works in a manner that ensures personal safety and the safety of fellow crew members. Strives continuously to develop a greater knowledge of the total well service operation, including the duties and responsibilities of each position. Respects chain of command and follows thru on instructions. Works in a safe manner following JSA’s, SOP’s, etc. Takes all rest periods and meal breaks per California law. Minimum Education and Experience High School diploma or GED is preferred Physical Requirements At various times and under certain circumstances, any of the personnel may frequently be required to assist and participate in tasks which ordinarily are the primary responsibility of another employee.  Aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscle endurance, joint range of motion and flexibility are requirements of all crew member positions. Tolerances Tolerates adverse weather conditions. Tolerates exposure to the elements and continuous vibration and elevated noise levels. Vision Maintains depth perception to accurately sense distance. Maintains peripheral vision to accurately see objects and detect motion at wide angles. Hearing Understands detailed verbal communications. Detects subtle changes and discrimination in sound or sounds. Communication Recognizes and communicates hazards, alarms and warnings quickly. Communicates ideas, instructions, questions, problems, solutions, and feelings accurately. Physical: Stands frequently. Walks and balances on uneven and loose ground, mud and slippery surfaces. Climbs industrial stairs. Maintains various body postures, bends frequently. Lifts 50 lbs floor to waist up to 5 repetitions Carries 25 lbs front weight up to 60 feet. Lifts 25 lb objects overhead up to 5 times in a row Pushes and pulls horizontal force of 50 lbs. for a distance of 50 feet. Grips and holds repeatedly. Sits for periods of time while operating computer / administrative work. Operates a vehicle, legally and physically; sometimes driving for long periods. Wears applicable personal protection equipment at the Well Service site including, but not limited to, a hard hat, safety toe boots, FR Coveralls, hearing protection, goggles, safety glasses and safety belts. Mental Remains mentally alert to the workplace surroundings for an entire shift  Qualifications This employee must: Be at least 18 years of age. Pass a post-offer physical examination, fitness testing, safety aptitude test, drug tests & background check. Maintain proper legal authorization to work in the U.S. Be able to speak and read English well enough to understand verbal and written safety postings, alerts and announcements, communicate with co-workers and be able to participate in job safety analysis meetings. Possess a valid Driver’s License and meet Ensign Insurance Requirements to drive.
