The following restrictions apply to all candidates:
Must be 18 years or older.
Applicants must be available for a non-negotiable start date by Monday, June 2, 2025.
Must have housing accommodations or transportation in the Houston area, as Ensign does not provide internship housing.
Applicants must have completed at least their sophomore year of study by the start of the Internship 2025.
Expected responsibilities but not limited to:
Develop a method to automatically and continuously tune a PID controller based on downhole feedback applied to a rig’s AutoDriller™ system. The opportunity may be available to test logic on either a functional drilling rig or a simulator.
Validate outputs from Machine Learning initiatives by comparing results to actual datasets (PID Loops)
Make recommendations for areas in which models can be improved and which changes may be needed. Clearly document all work, with an emphasis on standardizing processes and workflows for others.
Compile and validate data from real-time alerts.
Organize and document feedback from the Drilling Rigs and make recommendations for improving logic that automatically detects various downhole conditions on all operating drilling rigs.
Optimizing input of Well Plans with the right parameters into Ensign's AutoDriller™ and other Technology Products for optimized well delivery for our clients.
The role AutoDriller™ (PID controller) plays in on-bottom drilling operations and how to utilize them for maximizing performance and reducing downtime.
Create Reports based upon Drilling profiles and other Performance KPIs from rig data analytics plus finding areas of further performance improvement
Develop user interface for Drillers to help with trouble shooting
Prepare and deliver a final presentation upon successful completion of your projects.
Implement new AI solutions to Drilling Rigs globally.
Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrates a strong analytical mindset with an aptitude for forward-thinking and problem-solving
Motivated, collaborative, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks & sub-projects
Shows solid interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Power BI and/or Python for exploratory data analysis and data visualization
Additional ‘stretch assignments’ are possible for candidates familiar with Java, C and C
Ability to read programming and functional programming to and write data files based on user input and output
If the project is successful, we will present the intern with an opportunity to write a technical paper on their project and present at an IADC/SPE/AADE conference
Experience
Previous experience with Data Analytics, Process Automation, Control Systems, or Drilling Rig experience is considered an asset.
