Position Description and Qualifications

Job Posting Summary:

As a member of Ensworth’s in-house security team, the Security Manager for each campus will collaborate with all stakeholders in an effort to provide a safe and secure environment for Ensworth’s students, employees, and visitors. The Security Manager investigate allegations of suspicious/criminal incidents; or any incident that could jeopardize the overall safety and security of students/staff. Additionally, Ensworth Security Officers are often the first line of customer relations with students, employees, and visitors; the ideal candidate will effectively provide top level security with a customer service focus.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Abides by Ensworth’s Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct
• Commits to the ideals expressed in Ensworth’s Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement
• Adheres to the Essential Expectations of an Ensworth Faculty, Staff, or Administrator
• Schedules and supervises an internal armed and unarmed security team, providing 24/7 coverage
• Conducts security inspections to deter criminal and delinquent activities
• Checks general security of all Ensworth property (i.e. windows, doors, gates, etc.)
• Creates and fosters a setting that is safe, with a focus on prevention and early intervention strategies
• Checks and collects the early dismissal passes of students leaving Frist Campus prior to that day’s official school dismissal
• Prepares memos, reports, drawings, etc. related to safety and traffic issues on school campuses
• Maintains records of emergency drills and facilities drills when appropriate
• Manages physical security through access control and denial strategies
• Responds to all alarms or other crisis events
• Manages proxy card system and distribution of physical keys
• Assists in the development and implementation of security plans for special events
• Establishes and maintains a security log for all activities and incidents on each campus
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively and use de-escalation strategies prior to or in lieu of use of force
• Educates all stakeholders on security related measures
• Interacts with students, employees, and visitors on a daily basis to build positive relationships
• Helps lead any implementation of school safety initiatives
• Helps coordinate with other agencies when crisis situations occur
• Schedules and facilitates emergency drills in conjunction with appropriate local agencies
• Provides high visibility and accessibility to Ensworth students, employees, and visitors in all buildings and for campus events
• Works with the Director of Risk Management & Security to ensure an emergency management plan is reviewed and updated on an annual basis
• Understands and implements the incident command structure
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience:

• Shall be a U.S. citizen
• Shall be at least (21) years of age
• Shall possess a valid driver’s license
• Shall possess a High School Diploma or GED (required). Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred)
• Shall have no felony convictions or certain misdemeanor convictions (list provided by Director of Security) in order to meet licensing requirements for this position
• At least (3) years of experience in a related field required (law enforcement, military, security). Prior experience in a school environment is preferred.
• Shall have intermediate technical competencies and ability to use computers and technology such as Microsoft Windows and Office products, basic office equipment, mechanical equipment, etc.
• Well-developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, including students, co-workers, parents, alumnae, volunteers, and the public.
• Must be willing to wear designated security uniform & maintain all assigned equipment
• Must successfully complete background screening and verification
• Continued Education Programs (as required by Grade Level and/or position) – Periodically participate in different training sessions identified by you, the employee and/or Divisional Leadership/Supervisor with the goal of keeping our teachers and staff up to date with current teaching methods, practices and any new knowledge in their respective field. Dependent on the program, such training may need to take place outside of normal working hours and/or in the summer months.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and climate and regularly outdoors in varying weather conditions and climate
• Regularly uses close and distance vision; ability to observe individuals and scenarios from various distances
• Consistently moves around campus throughout the day on foot; infrequently works at a desk for extended periods of time; occasionally positions oneself on the ground or contorts body to address any safety or security threats
• Ability to move items weighing up to 50 lbs. across the campus
• Sometimes works in a stressful environment, effectively dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts; demonstrates stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions
• Regularly works flexible hours and overtime to support before and after-school or weekend events. If covering other shifts then the responsibilities and functions of that particular shift must be executed in a professional and timely manner.
• Ensworth requires employees to be physically present on campus, with limited exceptions that are at the sole discretion of the School. Under extraordinary circumstances, some or all of the workforce may be required to move to a remote working environment. Additionally, certain individuals may also be approved for limited remote work, based on the nature of the job description, specific circumstances, and only with written prior approval by a direct supervisor.
