Entech is currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Designer to join our dynamic engineering team, a leading consulting firm specializing in water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will work closely with electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and other multidisciplinary teams to design electrical systems for water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, and related facilities.

The Electrical Designer will be responsible for producing design documents, layouts, and drawings that support the electrical needs of various water and wastewater projects. This role requires proficiency in electrical design principles, a solid understanding of industry standards and codes, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.

This position offers a flexible, hybrid schedule from our Reading or Pottsville office.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Electrical Design & Drafting:
Develop and prepare detailed electrical designs, drawings, and schematics for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and associated infrastructure. This includes power distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), lighting, instrumentation, and control systems.

  • Design Documentation:
Produce electrical design packages including single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, and cable schedules. Ensure that designs are compliant with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NEMA, IEEE, IEC, etc.).

  • Coordination:
Work closely with mechanical, civil, and structural engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into overall project designs. Participate in project meetings to discuss design, schedule, and budget constraints.

  • Equipment Selection:
Assist in the selection of electrical equipment and materials, including transformers, switchgear, motor control equipment, and other related components. Ensure that selected equipment meets the project specifications and complies with industry standards.

  • System Analysis & Troubleshooting:
Conduct electrical system calculations such as load analysis, fault current calculations, and short-circuit studies to support design decisions. Troubleshoot and provide design solutions for electrical issues that arise during the construction phase.

  • Project Support & Oversight:
Provide support during the construction phase, reviewing contractor submittals, responding to RFIs (Requests for Information), and conducting site visits to ensure that electrical installations align with design specifications.

  • Quality Control & Compliance:
Ensure that all designs meet internal quality control standards and client specifications. Stay updated with the latest industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies related to water and wastewater electrical systems.

  • Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate design status and technical solutions to clients and project stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:

    • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).

  • Experience:

    • 3 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in water and wastewater industries.

    • Familiarity with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, SKM PowerTools, etc.).

    • Knowledge of electrical codes and standards relevant to water and wastewater facilities (e.g., NEC, IEEE, NEMA, etc.).

  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems and components, including power distribution, motor control, instrumentation, and lighting.

    • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.

    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

    • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with clients, team members, and contractors.

    • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Certifications (Preferred):

    • Professional certification or licensure (e.g., EIT or PE) is a plus.

    • OSHA or other relevant safety certifications are advantageous.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office Environment: Primarily office-based with opportunities for remote work up to 2 days per week (depending on project needs and firm policies).
