We operate three asphalt plants and perform work ranging from road construction and asphalt paving to sitework and utility installation.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Division Controller to oversee financial operations for our Western Massachusetts division. This is a pivotal leadership role embedded within our management team, responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, job cost analysis, and strategic budgeting. Ideal candidates will have prior experience as a Controller in asphalt, paving, heavy civil construction, or manufacturing, and possess deep familiarity with AIA Billing, inventory accounting, and WIP reporting.
Responsibilities
- Lead all financial operations for the division, aligning with corporate policies and timelines
- Prepare accurate monthly management reports and analysis
- Manage the budgeting process (three times annually), including SAP input
- Track and reconcile monthly inventory and production metrics
- Collaborate with operations teams to analyze job performance and profitability
- Support project teams with billing accuracy, job costing, and WIP schedules
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and corporate audit requirements
- Monitor the division’s balance sheet, vendor payments, and invoicing processes
- Assist in monthly close processes and year-end audits
- Drive continuous improvement across finance functions, policies, and reporting systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
- Experience as a Controller or similar role in paving, asphalt, construction, or manufacturing
- Construction accounting experience required; AIA billing knowledge is essential
- Proficient with SAP or similar ERP systems, plus Microsoft Excel and other Office tools
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Proven leadership skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- High attention to detail with a hands-on, solutions-oriented mindset
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based in Northfield, MA, with occasional site visits to plants or projects
- Ability to navigate construction environments and varied terrain
- Regularly sit or stand for 8-hour workdays; must occasionally lift up to 25 lbs
