Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Guidance Counselor
JOB GOAL: To provide students with educational, personal, and career technical counseling and to identify and coordinate all available resources required to enable and empower students to reach full potential.
REPORTS TO: Principal or designee
SUPERVISES: N/A
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate an annual local school guidance and counseling plan in accordance with standards set forth by the State Plan and commensurate with the local system plan.
- Provide individual and group counseling and guidance.
- Provide orientation for new students, parents/guardians, and faculty.
- Consult with parents/guardians, teachers, and staff about the special needs of students and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide appropriate appraisal services to assist teachers, parents/guardians, and students.
- Administer tests, analyze and interpret test results to provide information about educational, vocational, and personal/social needs.
- Assist with placement and follow-up services for students.
- Assist students in selecting programs of study to enhance career planning.
- Provide information and resource services for students, parents/guardians, and faculty.
- Assist students in building self-esteem and developing decision-making, problem-solving, and positive human relations skills.
- Provide crisis intervention services.
