What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Assistant position at Environmental Conservation, Department of?
The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description This position will provide maintenance support services throughout the Northville working circle including 5 public campgrounds, 4 boater access sites and the Northville office complex. Working under a skilled trades-worker, will be assisting in general maintenance, repair and infrastructure improvement at State facilities including but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and some medium/heavy equipment operation. Other duties to include, but not limited to, assisting in hazardous tree removal, trail maintenance and general sanitary cleaning of facilities. Will be required to assist with snow removal and may be required to assist the auto mechanic with basic automotive repairs under their direction.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical workunder the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services,such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYSCSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination ofexperience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at aschool, institute, or branch of the Armed Services..*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Programincludes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours oftechnical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours ofon-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled TradesTraineeship.When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New YorkState driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operate

Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.Must be able to work in remote areas.Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Overnight travel may be required.Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response.Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.Must be able to lift and move objects up to 70 pounds.
