EHS Associate
We are currently seeking an Environmental Health & Safety professional to join our EHS Compliance Services team in the Midwest. This is an opportunity to leverage your knowledge and be involved in challenging projects that will offer an opportunity to provide technical solutions. Essential duties and responsibilities:
The following tasks will be performed under the supervision and mentorship of senior staff once adequate training has been provided:
- Develop spill prevention plans, including SPCC plans, SWPPPs, hazardous waste contingency plans, waste management plans, integrated contingency plans, etc.
- Conduct field tasks such as EHS regulatory compliance audits, NPDES sampling, AST & UST inspections, and oversight of contractors
- Prepare and submit external reporting requirements and ensure reports are completed in a timely and accurate manner, e.g. SARA Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), biennial hazardous waste reports, NPDES discharge monitoring reports, air reports, etc.
- Plan and implement environmental field work and reporting
- Perform data analysis utilizing software, spreadsheets, databases, or other technology solution to assist with resolving client problems
- Conduct health & safety hazard and subsequent risk assessments
- Assist in EHS procedural document review and creation
- Implement and audit ISO Management Systems (14001 Environmental, 45001 Health & Safety, 50001 Energy)
- Prepare Air Permit Applications for submittal to permitting agency, including, but not limited to, preparation of air emissions inventory, regulatory review, agency forms, executive summary, etc.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Environmental Sciences or Engineering (Chemical, Environmental/Civil) preferred.
- 0-5 years of relevant experience within the environmental science/engineering field; preference of direct experience within Commercial/Industrial or Consulting/Engineering sectors desired
- Experience working with AutoCAD and GIS (e.g. ESRI ArcGIS, ArcMap, Survey123, Collector, etc.)
Requirements:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license with clean driving history
- Able to travel locally up to 25% with occasional short trips to meet with clients as needed.
- Excellent organizational skills paired with strong leadership abilities
- A positive attitude with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred
- Expertise in data management and tracking including utilizing databases and web-based information systems
- Ability to identify suspected EHS compliance concerns on-site visually, verbally, and through remote document/aerial reviews
Desired Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of local, state, and Federal environmental statutes and State-specific regulations including
- Resource Conservation & Recovery Act (RCRA), the
- Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA),
- Clean Air Act (CAA),
- Clean Water Act (CWA),
- Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA),
- Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA), and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
- Familiarity with National Fire Prevention Act (NFPA) standards
- OSHA/MIOSHA recordkeeping & reporting requirements
- Regulatory knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA standards
- Working knowledge of ISO Management systems (i.e. ISO 14001, 45001, 50001), ISO Lead Auditor Level Certificate preferred
- Experience with manufacturing and electric utility companies preferred
