What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant - General Ledger position at ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING & TECHNOLOGY INC?
ECT is seeking a staff accountant (general ledger accountant) to join our existing internal accounting team. The Staff Accountant prepares and maintains financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. Ideal candidate will be located in or around the Tampa or Gainesville, Florida area.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
- Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Maintain the general ledger.
- Assist with closing the monthly books.
- Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and perform account analysis
- Provide outside auditors with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
- Coordinate with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommend updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Maintain knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts including development of best practices, process efficiencies, and internal collaboration with other company departments and divisions.
- Assist with internal control development, testing, and monitoring
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field of study
- 3-5 years of relevant experience working as an Accountant or in a similar role.
- Experience with BST8 Global Enterprise Management Software or similar ERP application is preferred.
Essential Skills/Abilities:
- Able to extract and analyze data from multiple sources to generate meaningful insights for management decision-making.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger systems.
- Proficient in using accounting software and MS Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
