Scale House Specialist
The Scale House Specialist is responsible for the logistical movement of raw materials into the plant. Of critical importance is the overall control & management of feedstock and fuel inventories.
Responsibilities
- Operate truck scales to weight incoming / outgoing trucks delivering feedstock and fuel; accept or reject inbound shipments based established standards
- Perform raw material quality tests and ensure compliance with standards
- Monitor incoming loads to determine processing compatibility and ensure fiber specification requirements
- Effectively and professionally communicate with truck drivers regarding all relevant information
- Control scale kiosk operations and resolve any issues with scale software provider
- Print and distribute mill cards and X cards; communicate with Fiber team
- Operate truck dump in concert with Control Cab Operator communications for proper distribution of fuel and chips to appropriate A-frame
- Monitor product and ticket information for every delivery, reconciling as required
- Monitor and enforce supplier weekly or daily quotas; communicate quota completion to truck drivers
- Compile delivery logs with detailed information on source, quality, and quantity
- Download and print report templates required for preparation of daily reports
- Create daily, outside fiber sales, and residual reports
- Maintain daily shavings moisture spreadsheet
- Complete work orders for scale house or scale maintenance
- Maintain adequate daily housekeeping by blowing off scales and cleaning up around unbinding racks; pressure wash under scales on a monthly basis
- Direct placement of feedstock in assigned wood yard rows
- Maintain accurate daily roundwood inventory records
- Communicate row inventory and wood age to Control Cab Operator and Wood Yard Production Manager
- Complete incident reports for truck damage when it occurs
- Inspect equipment and inform O&M team of potentially unsafe and/or improperly operating equipment
- Monitor drivers’ compliance with the company’s PPE requirements
- Instruct new log truck driver regarding deliver and wood yard safety procedures
- Instruct new drivers on safe truck dump operations
- Instruct new drivers on safe shavings deliveries & truck dump operations
- Responsible for driver communications and enforcing all receiving and safety policies in a professional manner
- Monitor and enforce 95,000-pound weight restrictions on inbound trucks
- Monitor and enforce truck speed limits
- Make recommendations for improving plant safety, uptime, quality, energy consumption, and other operational metrics
- Monitor truck dump unloading times to ensure shortest possible turnaround
Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Minimum of 3 years previous industry experience with wood yard operations
- Experience in using computerized systems
- Previous heavy industrial equipment operations or certification is a plus
- Internal company certification required
Working Conditions
- Willing and able to work primarily in an office environment with frequent but limited time outdoors
- Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
- Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Willing and able to perform tasks such as walking, climbing, stooping, standing,

- Willing and able to pull and lift, up to 25 lbs.
