Job Summary
The Inventory Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accurate recording and analysis of inventory costs within the organization. This role requires a detail-oriented and analytical individual who can manage complex inventory systems, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide strategic insights to improve financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Inventory Cost Management: Oversee the accurate recording of inventory transactions, including purchases, transfers, adjustments, and disposals. Ensure that inventory costs are allocated correctly and reflect the true cost of goods sold.
- Cost Analysis and Reporting: Prepare detailed cost analysis reports and financial statements related to inventory. Identify opportunities and provide recommendations for process improvements to reduce inventory time to complete and increase accuracy.
- Compliance and Auditing: Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations. Coordinate and manage internal and external audits related to inventory accounting.
- Inventory Valuation: Conduct regular inventory valuation and reconciliation processes. Monitor inventory levels and assess the impact of inventory fluctuations on financial performance.
- Inventory reserve calculations and analysis, collaborate with supply chain on items to reserve.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the supply chain and operations team to ensure accurate inventory tracking and costing. Provide financial insights and support to cross-functional teams.
- Oversight of general accounting month close functions for related inventory areas and webstore processes and webstore sales tax filings processed through Avalara.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of inventory accountants. Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure a high level of competence within the team.
- Collaborate with FPA on analyzing variances between actual and budgeted costs and provide explanations and corrective actions.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in inventory cost accounting. Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in inventory management technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting. CPA certification is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in inventory accounting or cost accounting, with at least 1 year in managerial role.
- Proficiency in accounting software and inventory management systems. Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems are essential. Experience with SAP BusinessOne preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to analyze complex data sets and provide actionable insights.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to present financial information clearly and concisely to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven leadership and team management skills. Ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
