You will work collaboratively with a broader HR Team, including experts in the specialties of Talent Acquisition, Compensation, Ability Management, Wellness and Benefits, Talent Management, Payroll, Labour Relations, and Learning & Development.  You will be the primary connection between these specialties and our business operations.

 

You will do that by playing a crucial role in shaping our workforce and fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture. You use your expertise to provide consultative advice to front-line and mid-level managers related to employee and labour relations, talent management, job and organization design, total rewards and diversity and inclusion. You take pride in the work you do and how you do it.

 

  • The internal, formal title of this position is Human Resources Consultant.
  • We are hiring up to one (1) Full Time Temporary Human Resources Consultant position working out of Edmonton, AB.  This position is eligible as a hybrid role. This opportunity is open to Internal and External candidates.  Depending on the portfolio assignment, occasional travel may be required to various EPCOR sites.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

  • Partnering alongside front-line and mid-level management and provide consultative advice and guidance related to a broad range of employee and labour relations issues. This includes workplace investigations, performance management, progressive discipline, attendance management and dispute resolution. 
  • Coaching and supporting front-line and mid-level managers on legislation, policy and collective agreement interpretation.  This includes providing advice to front-line and mid-level managers regarding people issues, mediating conflicts, and identifying core people challenges in order to mitigate organizational risk.
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with union representatives, and partnering with management to navigate the dispute resolution process with employees and the union.
  • Providing input to the people strategy components of business unit plans, as well as Human Resources strategy.
  • Advocating for the needs and interests of business units to inform and support the development and implementation of Total Rewards and Talent Management programs.
  • Driving strategic discussions related to employee engagement, talent development/management, diversity and inclusion, total rewards, organization design, job design, talent sourcing, succession and workforce planning
  • Developing, implementing and reviewing HR processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and to mitigate risk.
  • Supporting growth initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions as well as company-wide initiatives.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

  • Post-secondary degree in Business, HR Management or a related area. 
  • 5 years of progressively responsible Human Resource experience including a combination of working in a unionized environment, labour relations, employee relations, compensation, and talent management.
  • Knowledge of relevant employment legislation (e.g Human Rights, Privacy, Psychological Safety, WCB, Employment Standards) 
  • Course work or experience in Arbitration and Mediation, Coaching, Conducting Investigations, Trauma Informed Practices, DEI would be considered an asset.
  • Facilitation experience would be considered an asset.
  • CPHR designation preferred.

 

As the successful candidate, you are able to easily establish rapport and communicate effectively (in writing and verbally) with diverse groups of stakeholders. You are comfortable with ambiguity and are able to navigate a wide range of complex issues which require your ability to think critically and apply sound judgement. As a trusted business partner, you are able to use your influencing and negotiation skills to drive positive people and business outcomes for EPCOR and helping us to serve the communities that count on us.
