EPCORs Water Services group has a Full Time Permanent opportunity for a Senior Manager Operational Accounting to join the Finance team working out of the Rossdale Water Excellence Building at the Rossdale Water Treatment Plant in Edmonton, AB.

In the Senior Manager role you will be accountable for the performance of the financial support of EPCOR Water Services Edmonton-based operations and overseeing the performance of the financial reporting and finance-related regulatory support for the regulated water services in Edmonton. This includes both ensuring accurate and timely reporting and analysis and achieving the required outcomes with time spans of 1 - 2 years.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

You are accountable to Water Services Controller and will have the following key accountabilities (but are not limited to these):

 

  • Providing input to the Water Services Finance plans and directions, ensuring an appropriate understanding of the EUI and Water Services Finance strategy throughout the EPCOR Water Services business unit and ensure on-going effective positioning and appropriate relationships between Senior Manager, Regulatory and other Senior Manager/Manager positions in Water Services Finance and in the rest of EPCOR.
  • Developing and implementing appropriate (1 - 2 year) deliverable within the context of the Water Services Finance business plan (including mission, vision, values, strategic positioning, operational plan and resource plan).
  • Ensuring:
    • Business plans and deliverables of direct report positions are aligned and integrated, appropriate (3 – 12 months) and include performance expectations and deliverable metrics.
    • The delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Planning, organizing and overseeing the completion of accurate financial reporting for EPCOR Water Services within the prescribed timelines, ensuring the satisfaction of operations management through the provision of customer focused financial analysis and expertise.
    • The provision of customer focused operational financial support and analysis and providing operational accounting oversight for EPCOR Water Services.
  • Strategically planning and identifying the necessary budget requirements, the provision of appropriate accounting and regulatory accounting treatments and the acquisition and talent pool development of optimal human resources.
  • Creating a strong team and providing appropriate context and prescribed limits for their development.
  • Assessing competition and market opportunities and threats; recommending appropriate plans to improve the operational effectiveness of the function and implement decided actions.
  • Maintaining high quality internal controls, including CSOX requirements.
  • Leading the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives to operational finance and regulatory reporting process and controls ensuring compliance to policies, standards, regulatory and other external requirements (e.g. CSox) and ensuring risks are appropriately managed.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

Qualifications, experience and behaviours you possess are:

 

  • Completion of a Degree or Diploma in Business, Finance or Accounting from a recognized post-secondary education institute.
  • Professional Accounting designation.
  • Proven understanding of EPCORs Financial processes.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • IFRS and Regulatory accounting practices and policies.
    • Rate-regulated accounting practices and concepts.
  • Experience that includes:
    • 7 (or more) in a progressively responsible accounting role.
    • 5 (or more) in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated capability to apply:
    • Relevant knowledge and technical skills to monitor the adherence to financial accounting practices, policies and accounting standards.
    • Relevant knowledge and technical skills to provide operations management with relevant financial analysis and input.
  • Well-developed ability to understand and apply Regulatory and Cost of Service knowledge to rate-regulated operations.
  • Sound understanding and use of Excel applications specifically for model development.
  • Comprehensive ability in the use of Oracle and Adaptive.

This is a professional level position that typically works Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).

  • A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)

Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law.   • A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
  • To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
